K-2 News
Today, in Journal Writing we edited a sentence, fixing spelling, punctuation and grammar. Then we wrote to Miss Guptill.
This Friday is Backwards Day, remember to dress up and show some school spirit :) Also, book orders are due back tomorrow, May 10th.

Grade 1 News
Homework is due on Friday this week. Please remember to read with your child and ask them questions about what they have read. Our spelling words this week are good, new, any, came, also, same. Our spelling test will be on Friday.

In Literacy, we learned a new strategy called Beginning and Ending Sounds. If you are not sure what the word is, look at the beginning and ending sounds and see if it helps to sound out the word. We also started writing Reading Responses today. This is where we Read to Self, or Read to Someone and then go write about what we read in our journal using leads such as these:

I liked the part when.....because.....
I didn't like it when.....because.....
The part when......reminds me of.......
My favorite character is.....because.........

In Math, we are still talking about 2-D and 3-D shapes but also practicing subitizing and addition/subtraction daily. We reviewed what we have already learned about shapes. We also looked around the room, finding as many rectangles, circles, and squares that we could find.
